The Suffolk County Championship Tournament, which runs parallel to the New York State Tournament but is a completely separate event, matches up all of the county’s championship teams to determine one overall Suffolk County Champion. Some of the greatest games in Long Island history have been played in this tournament, and this year’s version looks like it might be another one for the ages, with 4 of the 5 favorites considered to be among the best teams in their class in all of New York State. Greenport, led by super sophomore Ahkee Anderson, is the 9th ranked Class C team in New York State, Center Moriches, led by double-double machine Sean Braithwaite, is the State’s 7th ranked Class B team, Amityville, with scoring machine Josh Serrano, is 4th in Class A, and Hills East, with returning First Team All-New York State player Savion Lewis, is Class AA’s 5th ranked team. Contrary to popular belief, Class AA schools don’t dominate this event, winning it 13 times in the last 25 years. That’s because some of the best small school teams in New York State history have come from Suffolk County - teams like Amityville, Harborfields, East Hampton, Wyandanch, Bridgehampton, and Westhampton and that tradition continues. Join us for some great Suffolk County basketball. Maybe history will be made again this year! Here is the schedule:
