Hills West Rolls Past Bellport
By Dan Skaritka
Tenacious half-court defense and quick transition baskets gave #4 Hills West a convincing 74-51 road win over Bellport. The Colts opened up the game on an early 8-2 run thanks to multiple baskets by Cameron Jordon, but back-to-back threes from Kendall Robinson and George Turbin would help give Bellport the lead, 14-13, at the end of the first quarter. Early in the second quarter it became a shoot out. Both teams would trade three pointers for a total of seven 3s in the quarter. However, the highlight of the quarter came on a dunk by Richard Altenord that bent the backboard, causing a short break in the action in order to fix it. At the 4:41 mark, Hills West's tenacious and quick transition became too much for Bellport to handle. The Colts went on a 17-3 run to finish the quarter, giving them a 42-26 halftime lead. It was all Hills West in the 3rd with the same 1-3-1 pressure defense, along with an emphatic transition dunk by Kian Dalyrimple that pushed Hills West's lead to 30 at the end of the third. Bellport was able to cut into the lead in the fourth, but never seriously challenged. The Clippers were led by Jaye Bookhart and Kendall Robinson, both with 10. Hills West's Kian Dalyrimple had a game high 20, Deven Williams had 16, and Richard Altenord had 13
